Queen's Head at Bramfield

A lovely old building in the centre of Bramfield on the edge of the Suffolk Heritage Coast near historic Southwold.

The enclosed garden, ideal for children, is overlooked by the thatched village church which has an unusual separate round bell tower.

The pub's interior welcomes with scrubbed pine tables, exposed beams, a vaulted ceiling in the bar and enormous fireplaces.

In the same capable hands for over twelve years, the landlord enthusiastically supports the 'local and organic' movement - reflected by the menu which proudly names the farms and suppliers from which the carefully chosen ingredients are sourced.

Local produce notwithstanding, there's a definite cosmopolitan twist to many dishes, and vegetarian options are a particular strength: mushrooms baked in cream and garlic au gratin could be followed by fresh tagliatelle with pesto, roast red peppers and grilled goat's cheese.

Local free-range chicken, leek and bacon bacon crumble or fillets of sea bass with rocket pesto mayonnaise are fine main course examples.

Amanda's home-made desserts number half a dozen tempting options such as warm chocolate fudge cake or hot sticky toffee pudding.

Look out for special dining evenings such as Paupers' Evenings and monthly live music.
